10 Years Old Tawny

20 Years Old Tawny port is a golden-colored tawny, denoting a wine of considerable age. Very nutty and aromatic on the nose, it is a wine that has reached a high degree of smoothness through many years in wood. While very mellow and concentrated on the palate, it shows plenty of fruit with a long, rich finish. This wine is notably sweeter than the 10-year-old Tawny, and much more concentrated, yet displays the characteristic Cockburn's style of freshness and grip.

The 20 Years Old Tawny is wonderful with rich cream-based desserts, such as crEme brulee, cheesecake or flan. It also makes a special treat when served alone, slightly chilled, perhaps with almonds or pecans.

Older tawny ports are known as "indicated age." These wines carry an indication of the blend's age on the label, given in multiples of 10 years (Cockburn's 10 and 20 Years Old). Portuguese law allows for the age to be approximate.

Cockburn's 20 Years Old is blended from older, mature wines aged in cask and then refreshed by the addition of younger wines. The "indicated age" is the average age of the wines in the blend. These wines exhibit a silky smoothness from the cask aging and are ready to enjoy upon release. The constant blending and re-blending assures a consistent style.

OCTOBER 2004
SCORE: 90
"Elegant and light body, this offers good depth of flavor on a silky texture. It has a black walnut tannin grip in the end, a strong citrus element, and a clean finish for almond or walnut desserts."

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED / OUTSTANDING: A WINE OF SUPERIOR CHARACTER AND STYLE
SCORE: 94
"Wonderful aromas of butterscotch, toffee and honey, with just a hint of fruit. Full-bodied, with very sweet fruit and a long, caramel and nutty finish. Textbook. Cockburn's is in the business of old tawnies right now."
