Cockburn's Anno is a Late Bottled Vintage port (or LBV), a style of port that is made entirely of wines harvested in a single year, from multiple vineyard properties. The vintage may or may not have been "declared" by the port house. While true Vintage Ports are aged in cask for two years, LBVs are aged four to six years in cask before bottling. Therefore, they are more mature and fully developed when bottled, with well-rounded flavors and a smoother finish. No further bottle aging is required. Additionally, LBVs are lightly filtered before bottling, eliminating the need to decant the wine.
LBV ports are created in the style of classic Vintage Port, maintaining the vibrant fruit and rich tannins of the noble Portuguese grape varieties, but have a softer, smoother taste and are ready to enjoy at a much earlier date.

WINEMAKER NOTES
The 1998 LBV shows good intensity and dark red depth of color.
It has a clean, intense nose, overlaid with plum and red fruit
aromas and notes of chocolate. This wine is big on the palate,
with well-balanced acidity and tannins, has good body and
volume with a long finish. It exhibits balanced fresh fruit
and gripping tannin; the final impression is intense, silky
and round. This wine pairs wonderfully with blue cheeses like
Stilton or Roquefort or strong Portuguese cheeses such as St.
Jorge (Azores) or Serpa (Alentejo). As an aperitif, enjoy with
marcona almonds that are roasted with salt and olive oil,
hazelnuts or chestnuts. Consider it with a good pté or jamón
Ibérico (smoked ham) and for dessert with a chocolates tart or
cake.

"Muted at first behind spicy tannins, this opens with air
toward a sweet opulence. Its smooth black cherry flavors fill
the potent finish, built for blue cheese."

"Cockburn's Anno 1995 Late Bottled Vintage Port, Portugal
was produced in a year when many Port houses refrained
from declaring a vintage though the wines were quite good.
The overall quality is reflected in this LBV from Cockburn's,
which possesses the bright, high fruit tones of the vintage
and excellent structure. The spice nuances that an LBV
acquires after four years in cask (as opposed to two years
for vintage Port) are a pleasant additional complexity...Delicious
to enjoy right now."
